Rains can affect the battery life of your silent diesel Generator

supernova
Rainy season has finally begun in India and the joy one experiences are unfathomable. While we are busy enjoying the rainy season, our silent diesel generators are out in the rains sitting idle waiting for us to be in use when there need be. In order for our silent diesel generators to be of optimum use; maintenance is a must even in rainy season. Yes, the water is cleaning the dust which collects on it but what about the batteries? They need maintenance too, so here are some ways to clean your diesel generators’ batteries to keep them operational:
  1. Specific battery gravity: With the help of a battery hydrometer one can assess the power of electrolyte. Every generator has it mentioned in its manual.
  2. Battery Testing:It is quite possible that your silent diesel generator has not been in use for days or weeks, hence the primary solution is to check it by switching it on and checking the voltage consumption. If the generator is compromising in the delivery of output, without further ado look into the matter.
  3. Clean the batteries: Whenever there is excessive dirt on the batteries, one must clean it with a damp cloth to remove it. And if you see corrosion occurring on the terminals of the battery then the best way to clean it is by removing or detaching the cables and washing the eroded areas with a solution of baking soda and water (¼ baking soda and almost 1 litre of water), be careful to not let the solution enter the battery cells. Wash it later with clean water and apply a slight coat of petroleum jelly to avoid corrosion in future.
  4. Checking Electrolyte Levels:Since Silent Diesel Generators usually use lead acid type batteries so one must check the level or performance of electrolytes every 200 hours or 10 days to keep it running in good shape.
If you can't perform any of these tasks by yourself or in doubt about the performance of your diesel generator, Supernova is there to help you. In the case of any query, please feel free to connect with us and we will be more than happy to help you. Supernova is one of the leading Silent DG Set manufacturers & suppliers in India. Wet Stacking in diesel generators and how to eliminate it?

It’s important to safeguard the commercial well-being with an industrial generator that’s ready to meet the organization’s needs. When left unattended for lengthy periods of time, backup diesel generator can be subject to a detrimental process called wet stacking. Firstly, it is essential to understand what is wet stacking. Wet stacking is a condition that occurs when the unused diesel fuel, accumulated moisture, and carbon particles are allowed to gather in the exhaust of the diesel generator. This can happen for a number of reasons but usually results from diesel fuel not being properly burned off during use. As a result, a dark muddy liquid congeals in the generator’s exhaust stacks — hence the term "wet stacking".
